This Was the Highlight…

The walking was fun… playing in the water was better… visiting with friends is always great… but THIS game was the highlight of our recent outing with the Ferlans.

The boys ask me to do this with them when we go on walks at our house, but it involves running.  And I always tell them that this mama ONLY runs when they are hurt.  Other than that, a quick walk is the most they’ll get out of me.  Melissa ran cross-country, though, so it is in her blood.  So for the second half of our walk she entertained all of us, with this…

1) The boys would crowd together and wait in nervous anticipation as she crept toward them with her baby-girl filled stroller…

2) They’d giggle, and dancey-dance their little feet and grip at each other, wondering when she would strike… July-1,-2010-012-E3) And when they’d least expected it…July-1,-2010-013-E

4) …Gracie would give her the go-ahead and Melissa would dart toward them! And they’d turn to run; screaming and pealing out in the gravel with their soggy-wet Keens…July-1,-2010-014 5) Their little legs getting hung-up and weighed down by their dripping wet shorts (which we really TRIED to prevent)…

July-1,-2010-0156) And I’d hold my breath and grit my teeth, praying no one would fall… (fortunately, no one did during this game, although Cooper did earlier when Gage and Wyatt were trying to “Carry him like a backpack.”) But even if they did fall, I have no doubt that they would have popped back up and begged for more…

Thanks to this little cat-and-mouse game we got all the way back to their house without any of the kids complaining about being too tired… too hungry… too wet… too cold… to walk anymore…

And also as a result, I’m sure, of all the running-for-their-lives, Gage and Cooper are currently passed out from sheer exhaustion.

All thanks to Melissa and her fabulous running capabilities.
